Some short Benfica news stories and a video

Benfica will return to action this Saturday for a Carlsberg Cup match-up against Setubal. They game is at Stadium of “Luz”. If you still remember Benfica barely made it to this round of the Cup.

But I won´t get into that game today and instead will update some things. To start Nuno Gomes injured himself during warm-up before the Portugal National team game against Azerbaijan. He ended up not playing and will be out for about 6 games. He is expected to return on November 7th for the Champions League game against Celtic. With this said, and seeing as how this is a Carlsberg Cup game, Bergessio should be a starter. He had a very good practice session and Camacho has indicated he should start. It would be his first start in an official game and also the first time he plays since Camacho took over as head coach.

Benfica is looking into signing Cristian Rodríguez to a definite contract. The player is on loan, but given his good exhibitions Benfica want to sign a deal with him as quickly as possible. Benfica has the option of buying the right to the player before March 2008, but it is expected that this situation be handled by next month.

The Uruguayan Ernesto Chevanton, a forward, currently (not) playing for Seville is being talked about as a possible player for Benfica as soon as the trading season opens up again is December. Chevanton has said he would like play for Benfica and would consider lowering his salary to make it easier to come to Benfica. Camacho has stated publicly that Benfica needs two or three more players come December. I am just not sure what good they will do us then, and after all the money we spent on new players we should already have a good team. But I will leave that for another day.

To finish this post off I will leave you with a video of the Benfica mascot, the Eagle Vitoria, doing a practice run for the routine she does before every home game.
