SL Benfica ties with Guimarães on the eve of FC Porto - Sporting game

I went to the SL Benfica vs Guimarães game yesterday.  Words can not express what I felt after the game.  The score was bad, but even worse than that I saw a Benfica team that did not seem to have much structure on the field.  Benfica controlled the game, especially in the second half, but was never actually very dangerous.  Benfica has to be more dominating, and more dangerous at home, especially when playing against a team that just came from division two.

Camacho, who I like as a coach, but who should not have come to Benfica at this point in time, started the game with a rather strange line-up.  He than managed to make things worse as he started doing the substitutions (and late at that).  Benfica actually ended the game without the two starting forwards!  Not exactly what you expect when your team is playing at home, against a much weaker opponent, and with a game tied at zero.

Surprisingly enough, the crowd was actually very understanding!  Had it been Fernando Santos that did these same substitutions, and he would not have left the Stadium of Luz without a police escort, such would have been the anger of the masses.

Tonight FC Porto and Sporting will play.  We Benfica fans should be at home watching this game relaxed and waiting for either Porto or Sporting to lose points.  Instead we are going to be watching and wondering how is it that after only two games we are already behind both of these teams no matter what the final score is…
