Benfica finally signed a 5 year deal with David Luiz. It is said that Sport Lisboa e Benfica will own 80% of the player, while his agent Bertolucci will keep the remaining 20%. Usually I am weary of these kinds of deals where the agent keeps a percentage of the players pass, since there is a big incentive for the agent to encourage the player to change teams when things go right. But with Bertolucci I am more at ease since Benfica has had a similar arrangement with him with Luisão, and although Luisão has risen in value a lot since he arrived at Benfica, there doesn´t seem to be any preassure from Bertolucci to transfer the player to another club, nnd Luisão has been highly sought after by other big name soccer teams.
Before this deal David Luiz was on loan to Benfica from a little know soccer team in Brazil. David Luiz came to Benfica in December to fill the gap left by Ricard Rocha´s departure to Tottenham Hotspur. David Luiz is only 20 years old and could prove to be a great player and a great deal for Benfica. David Luiz first played for Benfica in Paris against PSG and I am very happy he recovered from the horrendous start he had to his career in Benfica. For those of you that don´t remember, Benfica was up 1 to 0 when Luisão went down with an injury and David Luiz was “thrown” in to the game. In the minutes following Benfica collapsed and PSG scored 2 goals in a couple of minutes. But it is very good to see that the player recovered nicely from these first few minutes and revealed himself a great football player with lots of room for improvement. Lets hope he evolves into a great defender defender.
Check out his goal against FC Porto.
