Benfica FC to play Celtic tonight in Champions League game

Benfica is less than one hour away from their Champions League match against Celtic. This is a do or die game for Benfica. Anything other than a win and Benfica won´t even make it to the UEFA round. Celtic also hasn´t been doing too well of late in their home League, but at least they are coming from a Champions League win against AC Milan.

Camacho is expected to make some changes for tonight´s match-up. From what I read in the papers, Katsouranis is expected to partner up with Luisão on defense and Maxi Pereira is expected to start on the right side of the defense. Nuno Assis, who didn´t play a bad game against Setubal, is expected to start at midfield. He didn´t play bad, but he cann´t score a goal if his life depended on it, so I don´t see much of a point of playing him in this situation. Bergessio, who also didn´t play a bad game is expected to start alongside Cardozo. Bergessio did miss a couple of good opportunities against Setubal so I am not sure how effective he can be. From what I saw during the pre-season it seemed like he played his best game when he played from the left side.

On the bench Camacho will have Di Maria and Freddy Adu, who will probably come onto the field in that order if Benfica doesn´t go up on the score board. Freddy Adu has been an important player whenever he enters the game. He scored the winning penalty shot against Amadora, in did the same with a nice goal against Setubal.

About 50000 people are expected for the game, but I will not be one of them. The main reason is that I do not agree with much of what has been going on since Fernando Santos was let go, and this is my way of protesting. Obviously if I didn´t live so far away that would not be as much of an issue, but under current circumstances I will be watching this one from my couch.

Go Benfica!
