SL Benfica has signed a 22 year old Serbian player, making him the 5th confirmed new player for next season. There was no payment involved, but the player comes from a second division Serbian team called RAD Belgrado. He plays both on the right side and on the center of the defense. But Benfica already has a couple of players (playing on loan for other squads) that could have done the job just as well. I question the reasoning behind Benfica signing a player like this, especially for a four year deal. I doubt that he will see more than hand full of minutes playing for the main squad, but I hope I can look back at this post and say how mistaken I was.
On a side note, Cardozo played 70 minutes last night for Paraguay. Paraguay won 5 - 0 over Colombia in the “Copa America”. But while Roque Santa Cruz scored a hat-trick, Cardozo was no where to be seen on the field. Lets hope he is saving himself for Benfica ![]()
