Judging from the words coming out of SL Benfica and from the comments Fernando Santos made yesterday when he came back from his vacation, Bergessio is a done deal like I reported a couple of days ago. Although Bergessio has also said his wish is to come to Benfica his previous team, Racing Avellaneda, is still doing some last minute dealings.

Meanwhile, José Veiga (who is not a Benfica employee) is headed to Italy to try to negociate Miccoli´s return to Benfica next season. I do hope he comes, but it seems to be getting crowed at the forward spot, so I hope they can sell Nuno Gomes. He had a terrible season last year and will probably be the odd man out. I don´t think Benfica is paying 9 million Euros for Cardozo to sit him in the bench.

Last but not least, rumors all over that Benfica was interested in Hugo Viana from Valencia. While I do believe that he would be very useful for SL Benfica, the fact of the matter is Benfica´s official website has said that Benfica is not interested in the player. Period.
