Our favorite soccer players got back to work yesterday in Seixal, Portugal.  Unlike past years, SL Benfica will not be going to a another country to do the pre-season.  This was a personal decision by Fernando Santos that Benfica management supported. 

Well, just in case you had not seen it yet, here is the new SL Benfica alternative jersey.  If nothing else this was a big marketing ploy.  Everyone here is talking about the color of the jersey!  And if the idea was to create a buzz, than that part of the mission has been accomplished.

I have not yet see one of these jersey up close, so it is hard to give a very definite opinion.  I also don´t have anything pink in my wardrobe, BUT its not that I have anything against the color pink, and we all know how fashionable it has been the last couple of years, even, and especially, for men.  Aside from the fashion aspect, pink is also the color used it the very popular and world renowned Italian “Giro”, where the leader also wears pink.  The other reason behind this color change is probably to try to capture more female supports for Sport Lisboa e Benfica and get them involved in the game.  I can already imagine the Stadium Luz full of beautiful women  wearing their pink Benfica jersey.  I will be sure to post some pictures on the blog.  As far as the main jersey there isn´t much of a change, except that it got a little more redder.
